Battle of the Balms

There are multiple ways in which you can remove your makeup and/or cleanse your face from the dirt from just being out in the elements. The hands down best way to start cleansing your skin, and making sure you are cleansing it completely, is with a cleansing balm.

Balms are able to break down makeup and balance the skin without causing irritations. Cleansing balms are rich and creaming cleansers that remove dirt, impurities, makeup, and oils without stripping your skin. Balms are safe to be used around the gentle eye area!

These balms make the perfect first step in your cleanse and skincare routine! With that said, we have put several cleansing balms to the test over the last year to figure out which work for us and wanted to share that with all of you.

Good Molecules Instant Cleansing Balm. This has by far become my go to cleansing balm.

This product literally melts your makeup, to include lip paint/stains and waterproof mascara effortlessly. I also love that it does not leave behind any film or residue like some of the others I have tested and will discuss below. I love the texture of this product and adore that it is such an affordable price point! It does not strip my skin of its natural oils and leaves my skin prepped for the remainder of my skincare routine! Hands down this is my goto. The only downside is that you have to order this online. I wish there was an option for me to be able to go into a store and purchase on the rare occasions that I failed to order prior to running out.

Farmacy Very Cherry Clean. I picked this up while at Sephoria in October. I seriously wish this was not a limited edition. What I love about this cleansing balm, of which you can get the original balm in Green Clean, is that it is amazing in the scent and brings to the table the gentle cleansing you can expect from this brand. It removes makeup, sunscreen, pollution just as you would expect from this brand.

The only reason that I have put this as my second favorite is that it is a higher price point. It is gentle on your skin and, leaves your skin feeling hydrated and prepped for the remainder of your routine. Definitely worth the try if you are looking for a cleansing balm you can pick up at your local Sephora rather than mail order.

Make Up Melt – Clove + Hallow. I wanted to love this product. I received this product for free by the distributor to review. I started off my review to see how it worked on cleansing out my makeup brush that I had been using during travel and it literally cleansed my brushes to where they looked practically brand new. I immediately began to use this balm exclusively until it ran out. It does indeed melt your makeup away, however, it left my skin feeling like there was residue. I always follow with a water-based cleanser so it would not linger, however, it did not deliver that total clean feeling that I have come to expect and love in a balm. This is one that while it does remove makeup, dirt, sunscreen, I just felt that it left my skin feeling less than healthy as my other balms do which is why I have removed this from my routine.

Clean it Zero Cleansing Balm. This is by far a cult favorite and, was the first cleansing balm that I was introduced to. It literally melts the makeup away, including the most stubborn of makeup, without stripping your skin. Given that it has Vitamin C-rich acerola extract, it will naturally exfoliate and brighten your skin. Over the years of using this product it has become smoother and softer from when it first launched. While this tops the charts of balms, I have not used this product since finding out that it still has yet to go cruelty free. I have removed this balm from my skincare routine merely for these reasons.

Cleansing balms continue to be the best way to start the cleansing steps in your routine. They literally bring a spa experience to your face.
